Who can use this feature?
- Unison admins can create and manage segments.
A segment is a saved group of records that match rules you define. Create one when you want to reuse the same group across supported Unison experiences.
Create a segment
- Go to Operations > Segments.
- Select New, then select New Segment.
Add the segment details:
- Segment Name: Enter a clear name for the group. This field is required.
- Purpose: Describe what the segment represents and how you plan to use it.
- Primary Object: Choose the type of record the segment should return. Options include Accounts, Users, Opportunities, Calls, Emails, Tickets, Documents, Tasks, To-Dos, and enabled external objects.
You cannot change the Primary Object after creating a segment. To use a different Primary Object, create a new segment.- Under Segment Rules, select Add Filter.
- Choose the field, operator, and value for the filter. To use data from a related object, choose that object first. Related objects appear when a relationship exists between the objects.
- Add more filters or inner groups as needed:
- Select And when every condition in the group must match.
- Select Or when any condition in the group can match.
- Select Add Inner Group to combine sets of AND and OR rules.
Select Generate Preview. The preview shows the total number of matches and a sample of the matching records.
If you change a rule, select Update Preview to refresh the results.
- Select Create Segment. You need a Segment Name and at least one valid rule before you can create it.
Unison opens the segment detail page, where you can review the current members.
Use related objects in your rules
The rule builder starts with fields from the Primary Object. You can also use fields from any object related to it, including external objects. If the relationship exists in Unison, the related object appears in the rule builder.
The available operators and values change based on the field you select.
Review or edit the segment
The segment detail page shows the purpose, total members, and member table. From this page, you can:
- Search the current members.
- Choose which columns appear in the table.
- Apply additional table filters to Account segments.
- Select Edit Criteria to change the rules. Preview the changes, then select Save Changes.
Unison reevaluates segment membership periodically. Changes to source data or segment rules may not appear in the member table right away.
FAQs
Question: Why is Create Segment unavailable?
Answer: Make sure you entered a Segment Name and added at least one valid rule.
Question: Can I change the Primary Object after creating a segment?
Answer: No. To use a different Primary Object, create a new segment.
Question: Can I use an external object in segment rules?
Answer: Yes. An enabled external object can be the Primary Object. You can also use its fields in another segment when a relationship exists between the objects.
Question: Why can the saved member count differ from the preview?
Answer: The preview uses the rules and source data available when you generate it. Segment membership is reevaluated periodically, so recent data changes or rule edits can cause a temporary difference.
